Is the Royal Caribbean drink package worth it?

Royal Caribbean prices the Deluxe Beverage Package dynamically — the same package can run anywhere from about $63 to $120 per person per day depending on the ship, itinerary, and how far out you buy. A typical mid-range price is around $89.99 per day before the automatic 18% gratuity. Because pricing moves, the single most reliable way to save is to watch your Cruise Planner after booking: packages go on sale several times before most sailings, and you can cancel and rebook at the lower price.

The Deluxe package covers drinks up to $14 each — which includes most standard cocktails, beer, and wine by the glass, but not every signature cocktail or premium pour. Order above the cap and you pay the difference plus gratuity. The break-even point for most people lands around five to six alcoholic drinks a day once you count the specialty coffees and bottled water the package also covers.

One rule catches cabins out more than any other: every guest 21 or over in the same stateroom must buy the Deluxe package if one does. If you cruise with a light drinker, Royal Caribbean will sometimes allow one adult to substitute the Refreshment Package instead — but you have to call to arrange it; you can't do it online.
