Is Carnival's CHEERS! package worth it?
CHEERS! costs $69.95 per person per day when purchased before the cruise, or $74.95 per day onboard, with a 20% service charge added either way. It covers 15 alcoholic drinks per day (non-alcoholic drinks are unlimited) with a $20 per-drink cap — one of the most generous caps of any line, so nearly everything on Carnival's menus is included.
With cocktails averaging around $13, the break-even sits near five to six alcoholic drinks a day — a bit fewer if you also drink specialty coffee, mocktails, and bottled water. Carnival requires every guest 21+ in the same cabin to buy CHEERS! together, so the math has to work for both of you, not just the heavier drinker.
One quirk worth knowing if you sail from Galveston: Texas liquor law means CHEERS! doesn't activate until 6:00 AM on day two. You aren't charged for day one, but budget for à-la-carte drinks that first evening. New York departures have a similar restriction.
