MSC simplified its US-market lineup: the old Easy and Easy Plus packages are gone, leaving the Premium Extra Package (about $85.00 per day onboard for 4+ night sailings, with a $16 per-drink cap), the Alcohol-Free Package ($33.00/day), and the Minors Package ($22.00/day) for guests under 21. Unusually for the industry, MSC includes gratuities in its package prices — the advertised number is what you pay.
Two things tilt MSC's math. First, pre-cruise pricing: buying Premium Extra before you sail routinely saves 15-40% versus the onboard price, and drinks-plus-wifi bundles offered at booking can cut the effective cost further. Second, à-la-carte drinks on MSC carry an automatic 18% service charge on US sailings — so the pay-as-you-go side of the comparison is pricier than menu prices suggest.
Like most lines, MSC requires all adults in a cabin to buy the same alcohol package — and uniquely, minors in that cabin must take the Minors Package. For a family of four, that's the full-cabin math you should run in the calculator, not just the adults'. Since April 2025, alcohol packages also carry a 15-alcoholic-drinks-per-day cap.
